Root canal treatment is performed when decay reaches the pulp of a tooth, causing infection. The pulp, once infected, must be treated — it cannot heal on its own and can even weaken your immune system if left untreated. Hearing you need a root canal is enough to cause stress, but the good news is: it means your tooth can be saved. With modern techniques and anesthesia, the procedure is no more uncomfortable than a routine filling.

We take X-rays to confirm the infection and assess the extent of the damage to the pulp and root.
Local anesthesia ensures complete comfort throughout the entire procedure.
The infected pulp is removed, and the canals are thoroughly cleaned, shaped, and disinfected.
The canals are filled and sealed. A crown is typically placed to restore the tooth's full strength and appearance.
Root canal treatment is made necessary when a cavity is allowed to reach the pulp of the tooth, or when deep restorations or trauma damage the nerve. Once the pulp is infected, it must be treated. Symptoms may include sensitivity to hot or cold, pain, swelling, and a bad taste. Sometimes no symptoms are apparent and the problem is only found during a checkup.
During treatment, the infected pulp is cleaned out, the canals are disinfected and shaped, and the space is filled with a biocompatible material to prevent any further infection. A core build-up and crown is usually recommended afterward to restore the tooth’s strength.
Signs you may need a root canal include: severe toothache pain when chewing or applying pressure; prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold after the source is removed; dark discoloration of the tooth; swelling or tenderness in nearby gums; or a persistent pimple on the gums.
The alternative to root canal treatment is extraction. A root canal allows you to keep your natural tooth — which is almost always the better long-term option for your oral health, bite, and bone.
